Frequently Asked Questions  (FAQ)

What Is Chiropractic?  The word "Chiropractic" comes from ancient Greek and means "done by hand.” Chiropractic is the science, art, & philosophy of locating & correcting vertebral subluxations through gentle, specific chiropractic adjustments thus allowing your body to function at its optimum potential. Chiropractors are specialist in manual adjustment of the vertebrae of the spine and other joints. Adjustment helps relieve pain and restore normal functioning to the spine, joints and supporting structures of the body - so you can enjoy your everyday activities again and as quickly as possible.
How Does the Doctor of Chiropractic Help?
The Doctor of Chiropractic, through a procedure called and adjustment helps restore misaligned vertebrae to a more normal position, thus allowing the nerves to properly communicate with the rest of the body and let the body heal itself - safely and naturally. What causes the sound made during a chiropractic adjustment?

What Is That Sound When You Adjust?? That sound is not your spine "cracking" or "popping" like most people thinks. That sound is created by gas (in this case, nitrogen) rushing in to fill the partial vacuum created when the joints are slightly separated. Not all chiropractic adjusting techniques produce this noise. In fact, some adjusting techniques use little force and thus produce no noise at all.

What Conditions do Chiropractors treat? Doctors of Chiropractic care for patients of all ages, with a variety of health conditions. Chiropractors are especially well known for their expertise in caring for patients with back pain, neck pain, and headaches, particularly with their highly skilled manipulations or adjustments. They also care for patients with a wide range of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system, involving the muscles, ligaments, and joints. Chiropractors also counsel patients on diet, nutrition, exercise, healthy habits, and occupational and lifestyle modification.

Does It Hurt To Have A Chiropractic Adjustment? No. Chiropractic adjustments feel great. I am confident that once you begin receiving your adjustments, you will begin to look forward to them. They will become one of the highlights of your week. When you allow the vertebrae in your spine to return to their proper position, you will notice much less stress and tension.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe?  Yes. Statistics prove that chiropractic care is one of the safest types of healthcare in the world. You only need to compare the malpractice premiums paid by chiropractors to those paid by medical doctors. Doctors of Chiropractic pay only a small fraction (approx. 1/20) of the price medical doctors pay in malpractice premiums. 250,000 people will die this year as a result of bad medicine, making this the third leading cause of death in the United States of America (The Journal of The American Medical Association, JAMA; Vol.284, July 26, 2000). Of the millions of people receiving chiropractic adjustments, each year, only a handful will even make a complaint.

What Type of Adjusting Techniques Do You Use?

Dr. Jani is trained in several different manual techniques or “hands-on,” as well as in using special instruments, table, disc decompression, and traction. If you have a preference please let her know. We want you to relax, enjoy, and fully benefit from your chiropractic care.

Do You Only Adjust the Spine?
No, Dr. Jani has received additional training in extremity work. She can adjust your hands, wrists, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, feet and can even help with TMJ problems.

Does Chiropractic Care Require A Referral From An MD? No. Chiropractors are legislated as primary contact health professionals and are so defined in federal and state regulations. This means that patients can consult them directly. However, chiropractors often work closely with medical doctors, many of whom refer to chiropractors when they believe chiropractic treatment will help alleviate a patient’s condition. Similarly, chiropractors frequently refer to medical doctors when necessary.

Why Do My Children Need Chiropractic Care?
The birth process is often the cause of your child's first subluxation. A very soft and undeveloped spine of an infant can suffer trauma during delivery. It is estimated that as much as 80lbs of pulling pressure can be exerted to remove a baby from the birth canal. Then, as children grow up and become more adventurous, the number of injuries to their spines becomes countless. The repeated falls as children learn to walk, the running, jumping, twisting, bumping, and falling all over the place while playing in the yard or on an athletic field will often cause your child to become subluxated. However, often children do not show any signs or symptoms of being subluxated until later on in life. Chiropractic care offers your child a more responsive body, a more balanced flow of energy and overall increased performance as she/he passes through their windows of development. A subluxation free child also minimizes the risk of future health challenges.

If I’m Pregnant Can I Still Receive Chiropractic Treatments? Yes. This is one of the most rapidly changing times in a woman’s body and it is important to keep the pelvisaligned for growth and development of the baby and for mom’s comfort. Many women report easier births. If you have any concerns or fears please just let Dr. Jani know and she will explain everything in advance.

I’m Over 60, Am I Too Old for Chiropractor Treatment? Many active seniors seek regular treatment by a chiropractor. Patients at Jani chiropractic clinic know first-hand that periodic visits can help catch little problems before they become major concerns – helping you to stay healthy and as active.

Once You Go To A Chiropractor, Do You Have To Go Forever? NO. Some people use chiropractic treatments to relieve symptoms while others receive to improve their overall health and quality of life. We try to educate our patients on the benefits of chiropractic care and allow each person to decide on the treatment that is right for them. Levels of chiropractic care include relief care (symptom oriented), corrective care (correcting subluxation and health enhancing care (fostering optimum joint and nervous system function). Just like you would go to a dentist forever to maintain good dental hygiene, we suggest that people get a chiropractic check up at least four times per year. This simple routine can help prevent joint injury, joint deterioration and improve nervous system function.
